Today more than ever, designing the interiors of residential units that form part of our existing building heritage means radically rethinking the organization and hierarchy governing the spaces to intercept new ways of conceiving life in contemporary urban environments. Consequently, bespoke solutions are increasingly common, adapting better to desired transformations while overcoming technical constraints. These solutions often combine architectural elements, furnishings, and artificial lighting, creating small architectures within architectures.
This is the case with FS apartment, where all service spaces have been systematically integrated by the architectural project into a single “magic box.” This element interfaces with the new living area as a bookcase, concealing the access doors to the new storage spaces and the sleeping area, while governing access to the guest bathroom and radically separating it from the private bathroom of the sleeping quarters.
This strategy naturally allowed for the redesign of the kitchen, orienting it towards the large living room and making it connected through large sliding glass doors which, when fully opened, transform the living area into a true open space. The refined, semi-transparent glazing of the doors enhances the possibilities for creating different daytime and evening atmospheres between the main rooms, concealing the functional area of the kitchen when necessary. Overall, the renovation of the apartment not only radically renewed its internal appearance but also gained useful space for the young couple of owners, aligning the rooms with their vision of life.
